A residential shed is a detached steel structure on a domestic property used for storage, vehicles, workshops, recreation or extended living space. In Queensland, residential sheds are classified as Class 10a buildings under the National Construction Code — non-habitable structures governed by separate planning rules to your house. Approval is typically required if the shed is larger than 10m², taller than 2.4m, or longer than 5m on any side.
