Here’s a summary of the reasons we use these materials here at Stockman Sheds:

Tried and tested for Australian conditions

For over a century Bluescope has been adapting their Australian made steel to the harsh Australian climate. You’re guaranteed performance that will suit your location, climate and lifestyle. Corrosion resistant durability for your peace of mind!

Visual appeal

Your steel shed will give you unmatched visual appeal thanks to the wide ranging palette of colours you can choose from. They’re inspired by Australian landscapes, so you’ll find the perfect colour for your storage solution.

Eco-friendly

The longevity of Bluescope Steel helps conserve energy that would be spent maintaining or replacing inferior products. What’s more, the steel is 100% recyclable and contains recycled materials itself.

Easy to maintain

A Bluescope COLORBOND® shed requires very little maintenance. A regular wash of the walls with clean and fresh water will help prolong its life and its looks. That’s all it takes!

Warranty

Bluescope backs up the quality of their product with a solid warranty on the material used in any steel structure. Get in touch to ask our team for more information about the material warranty that will apply to your shed.

Fire and pest resistant

This steel boasts immense structural integrity. It’s not susceptible to termite activity, and is resistant to the immense heat of fires. This is a shed investment for the long term!

Frequently Asked

BlueScope Steel shed questions, answered

What is BlueScope Steel?
BlueScope Steel is Australia's largest steel manufacturer, headquartered in Melbourne with major plants at Port Kembla (NSW) and Western Port (VIC). It produces COLORBOND® pre-painted steel and ZINCALUME® zinc/aluminium-coated steel — the two products almost every Australian shed is built from. BlueScope steel is engineered specifically for Australian climate conditions: salt spray on the coast, UV inland, hail, cyclonic winds.
Why does Stockman only use BlueScope Steel?
Three reasons. First: it's engineered and tested for Australian conditions in a way imported steel isn't. Second: it carries a 30-year warranty against perforation by corrosion when used as recommended — backed by an Australian manufacturer that will still be there in 30 years. Third: it's traceable. Every coil has a heat number; if there's ever an issue we can trace it back to the batch.
What's the difference between COLORBOND® and ZINCALUME®?
Both are BlueScope products. ZINCALUME® is bare zinc/aluminium-coated steel — silver finish, corrosion-resistant, used for unpainted industrial sheds and farm structures. COLORBOND® is ZINCALUME® plus a baked-on paint layer in your choice of 22 standard colours. Both have the same structural strength; the choice is purely cosmetic and warranty-based (COLORBOND® adds a 10-year paint warranty on top of the 30-year corrosion warranty).
What's the warranty on a BlueScope steel shed?
BlueScope offers a 30-year warranty against perforation by corrosion on COLORBOND® and ZINCALUME® cladding when used as recommended for the site's environment. Stockman adds a 20-year structural warranty on the engineered frame, plus our own installation warranty. Total picture: 30 years on the cladding, 20 years on the steel frame, lifetime on workmanship through QBCC.
Is imported steel cheaper than BlueScope?
It's usually cheaper upfront, sometimes by 15–25%. The trade-off is no Australian warranty, untraceable origin, and coating thicknesses that often don't meet AS/NZS standards for the local environment. Cheap imported steel typically starts showing corrosion within 5–8 years on coastal sites and 8–12 years inland — replacement costs more than the original savings. Stockman doesn't use imported steel for this reason.
