Large Sheds shed questions, answered

What counts as a 'large' shed?

Anything over 100m² floor area or 5m wall height qualifies as a large shed by most definitions. Stockman builds large sheds from 12m × 9m (108m²) up to 36m × 24m+ (864m²+). Above 180m² and 6m walls, the engineering, slab spec, crane requirements and council approvals all step up — these are no longer 'big sheds' but proper engineered structures.

How much does a large shed cost in 2026?

Most Stockman large sheds run $80,000 to $300,000+. A 15m × 12m × 5m large shed sits around $80,000–$140,000; an 18m × 15m × 5m run $140,000–$200,000; 24m+ wide cropping or industrial sheds push past $300,000. Width drives cost more than length — wider spans need bigger steel sections. Three-portal sheds are cheaper per square metre than two-portal because the columns share load.

What's the maximum span Stockman builds without internal columns?

Stockman regularly builds clear-span sheds up to 24m wide without internal columns. Larger spans (30m+) are possible but the steel sections get big and the price climbs steeply. Above 24m, most projects use a two-bay design with a single internal column line — much cheaper for almost the same usable floor space.

Do large sheds need engineered slabs?

Yes — every shed Stockman builds gets an engineered slab, but large sheds especially need it. Above 100m² floor area the engineer accounts for differential soil settlement, edge thickening, control joints and load distribution from the columns. 32 MPa concrete is standard on large sheds; reinforcement is matched to the use case (forklifts, heavy machinery, livestock pens all need different specs).

How long does a large shed take to build?

Allow around 6 months from initial quote through to a finished, handed-over large shed. That covers design, engineering, council approval, manufacturing at our Toowoomba factory, slab pour and cure, then on-site construction. Sites with complex overlays, soft soil or remote locations can run a little longer.
