What council class are school sheds?
Most school sheds fall under Class 7a/7b (storage, carpark) or Class 9b (assembly buildings — used for sports, drama, gathering). The classification depends on whether the structure is for storage, vehicle/equipment housing, or active use by students. Class 9b carries stricter fire-rating, egress and accessibility requirements than 7a/7b. Stockman builds across all relevant classes for school clients.
What's the typical size for a school shed?
Depends entirely on the use. A storage / equipment shed for sporting gear and grounds equipment typically runs 9m × 6m × 3m. A covered outdoor learning area or canteen extension lands at 12m × 9m × 3.5m. A full sports facility or covered sports court runs 24m × 18m × 6m+ to fit a basketball or netball court. We've built sheds up to 36m wide for school sports projects.
How does the school shed approval process work?
School builds usually run through Department of Education project officers or the school's own facilities team, which streamlines the approval workflow but also adds compliance steps (DET design standards, child safety requirements, accessibility, fire engineering for assembly buildings). Stockman is QBCC-licensed (#15408423) and works inside that framework. Allow around 6 months from quote through to a finished, handed-over school shed — approvals on a school project run longer than residential.
Can a school shed include changerooms, kitchens or office space?
Yes — Stockman regularly builds school sheds with internal partitions for changerooms, equipment rooms, canteens, scoreboard rooms and teacher offices. These rooms get full BCA compliance for plumbing, ventilation, accessibility and fire rating where applicable. The shell stays as a Class 7b/9b structure; the internal fitout follows the relevant Class 1/3/9a/9b rules for the room's specific use.
