What's the most common outdoor shed size?

For domestic outdoor sheds, the sweet spot is 6m × 4m × 2.7m — single garage size, fits a car or generous storage and tools. For acreage and rural-residential blocks, 9m × 6m × 3m is common — gives room for a ride-on mower, workshop bench and storage. Smaller garden sheds (3m × 3m) are usually under the 10m² Class 10a threshold and don't need council approval, but Stockman doesn't typically build at that scale.

How much does an outdoor shed cost in 2026?

Most Stockman outdoor sheds run $15,000 to $50,000. A 6m × 4m garden/utility shed starts around $15,000–$25,000; an 8m × 6m acreage shed lands at $25,000–$40,000; a 9m × 6m+ workshop or recreation shed runs $30,000–$50,000. Final price depends on size, wall height, slab spec, council overlays and finish features.

Do outdoor sheds need council approval in QLD?

Yes, in almost every case — the Class 10a thresholds (10m² / 2.4m / 5m on any side) are easy to exceed. A 3m × 3m × 2.4m garden shed at exactly 9m² and 2.4m might slip under the line, but anything larger or taller triggers a building application. Stockman handles the council application, certifier inspection and overlay checks as part of every build over the threshold.

Can I run power and lighting to an outdoor shed?

Yes — Stockman roughs in conduit and electrical entry points during construction, and a licensed electrician runs the cable and connects the circuits. Common pattern: dedicated lighting circuit, 2–4 GPO outlets on a separate circuit, optional 3-phase if you're running serious workshop tools. Always use a licensed sparky for the connections — DIY mains wiring is illegal and dangerous in QLD.

What's the warranty on an outdoor steel shed?

BlueScope warrants COLORBOND® cladding for 30 years against perforation by corrosion. Stockman adds a 20-year structural warranty on the engineered frame plus our own installation warranty. QBCC licensing (#15408423) covers workmanship through the QBCC home warranty scheme on residential builds.
