Flexible machinery shed design

All businesses are different, and machinery storage needs are going to vary considerably according to your purpose and location. Stockman Sheds are flexible in their approach to machinery shed design, focussed on meeting and exceeding your expectations. If you need an open-fronted shed for farm equipment, or a secure and lockable machine shed for manufacturing, we’ll get it done for you!

Who uses our machinery sheds?

Our machinery sheds are secure havens for your valuable assets. Farmers, construction companies, factories and transport operators all across South East Queensland use them to keep their machinery secure.

All our sheds are custom designed, so if your machinery is a unique size, we can still build you a steel structure that will keep it safe. If you’re not based in our service area, you can still enjoy the quality difference of a Stockman Shed. We can design and manufacture a pre-engineered DIY shed kit which will be sent to you.

Here are some examples of what people use our machinery sheds for:

Farm equipment

Keeping agricultural machinery in top condition is essential for efficiency and longevity. Our sheds protect important farm equipment from harsh weather, dust, and theft. This includes massive tractors, combine harvesters, sprayers, seeders and all related implements and attachments. Make sure it stays secure and rust free in the down season!

Transport and logistics

If you’ve got a trucking or freight company, a Stockman Shed will give you the space to keep your vehicles safe. From semi-trailers and B-doubles to delivery vans and utility vehicles, we’ll accommodate your fleet, plus provide workshop space and storage areas.

Earthmoving gear

Heavy-duty earthmoving equipment needs a tough storage solution to match. We engineer robust machinery sheds that house excavators and backhoes; bulldozers and graders; skid steers and loaders; and cranes and drilling rigs. All hydraulic components will be protected from mud and rust, and we’ll install access solutions for efficenent movement of heavily used equipment.

Workshops

Tradies, farmers, captains of industry… they don’t just use our sheds for storing their machinery, they have enough space to work on it too. Keep your tools safe and keep your machinery in top condition with a workshop shed from Stockman!

Frequently Asked

Machinery shed questions, answered

What size machinery shed do I need?
Measure your largest machine fully extended (boom, hopper, header front), then add 1m clearance on every side. A small farm with a tractor and ute fits in 9m × 6m × 4m. A mid-size farm with a tractor, header and trailer typically needs 15m × 9m × 5m. Big cropping operations with multiple combines need 24m × 12m × 6m+. Telehandlers usually drive the dimensions — they're often the tallest single piece of equipment.
How tall does a machinery shed need to be?
Most modern combines and headers sit 4–4.5m tall with the cab; add 600mm for the door track and you need 4.6–5.1m wall height. Tractors with cabs and front-end loaders raised need 4.5m+; telehandlers fully extended (which you'd never do indoors) are taller still — but for storage 5m walls cover most options. Always overshoot by 500mm; the cost is small compared to retrofitting.
Open-front vs fully enclosed machinery shed?
Open-front (one or two sides clad, others open) is faster to access, cheaper per square metre and great for everyday machinery. Fully enclosed gives security, weather protection for sensitive electronics on modern combines, and a workshop area integrated. Many farms go hybrid: fully enclosed workshop bay at one end, open machinery bays running off the rest of the structure.
How much does a machinery shed cost in 2026?
Most Stockman machinery sheds run $50,000 to $180,000+. A 12m × 9m × 5m shed sits around $50,000–$80,000; an 18m × 12m × 5m mid-size build lands at $90,000–$140,000; large 24m+ open-front cropping sheds push past $180,000. Open-front sheds save 20–30% on cladding compared to fully enclosed, so they often come in cheaper.
Do machinery sheds need council approval in rural Queensland?
Usually yes. Class 10a sheds over 10m² / 2.4m / 5m on any side trigger a building application even on rural-zoned land. Class 7b sheds (used commercially for farming activity) may also need a Material Change of Use under the planning scheme. Stockman handles every application, certifier inspection and overlay check as part of the build.
