Shed Build

A Mt Luke Machinery Shed

From heavy machinery to dirt bikes, this custom Mt Luke farm shed has room for it all. See how Stockman Sheds brought this impressive rural build together.

A Mt Luke Machinery Shed

This machinery shed in Mt Luke is a recent Stockman build, and there’s a lot to like about it.

Our customer has a good collection of equipment, and now there’s a proper place to keep it all - with room to spare. Already there’s a Takeuchi tracked loader, a side-by-side, a ride-on mower, several dirt bikes and plenty of attachments… and they’re just getting started.

The shed sits on an elevated rural property with epic views down the hill. The Toowoomba ranges have some stunning spots, and this is one of them. We needed to build a shed that fitted in.

Let’s take a closer look at what we created for our customer. It’s a long, Monument®-coloured skillion building with four large roller doors and an open bay at one end - a great match for a scenic rural property like this.

Mt Luke Shed Features

Space for the Work Machines and Dirt Bikes

internal shed storage space

Measuring 11m wide, 25.44m long and 4.2m high, this shed has a total footprint of just under 280m², including the covered open bay. That’s a decent amount of room for a property where plenty happens.

The length of the building is handy when it comes to dividing up how the space is used. Equipment can be parked in different areas rather than crammed together, with room left to move around and get jobs done.

With a 4.2m wall height, larger machines can get in and there’s plenty of vertical storage space too.

Four Large Steel-Line Roller Doors

shed with multiple roller doors

Four roller doors run along the main side of this Mt Luke machinery shed, giving the owner plenty of options for getting equipment in and out.

We’ve installed:

  • Three Steel-Line roller doors measuring 4200mm high × 5100mm wide
  • One Steel-Line roller door measuring 3600mm high × 5100mm wide

All four are finished in Monument® to match the rest of the building.

As well as the wide openings, having four separate entrances makes a big difference. If the tracked loader is parked at one end and the mower is at the other, there’s no need to move one to get to the other. Just open the right door and get cracking.

Large Open Bay at One End

shed with large open bay

At one end of the shed, we’ve included a large covered bay with an open front. It’s part of the main building, sitting under the same skillion roof and on the same concrete slab - just not surrounded by the four walls.

There are plenty of ways to use a space like this. Unload supplies, get machinery out the rain or work on something without hauling it inside. Not a bad spot to fire up the BBQ and have a cold one with the mates on the weekend either.

Monument® Cladding

The shed owner went with Monument® for the entire exterior, which is a popular choice for rural settings. The walls feature vertical Trimdek® cladding, while the roof is finished in corrugated steel. The roller doors, gutters and barge capping are all Monument® too. It looks great against the eucalyptus trees, red soil and green hills around Mt Luke.

5-Degree Skillion Roof

skillion roof shed

We went with a 5-degree skillion roof on this shed, giving it a clean and modern appearance. Unlike a traditional gable roof, which slopes down from a central ridge, a skillion roof has a single slope running from one side of the building to the other.

On this shed, that means one continuous roofline stretching the full 25.44m length of the building.

The low pitch works well with the 4.2m wall height and the long, rectangular design. It also provides a consistent roofline over the enclosed machinery storage and the open bay at the end.

Bradnams Sliding Glass Door and Windows

We’ve also fitted a custom glazing package that includes a Bradnams sliding glass door and two large sliding windows.

The specifications are:

  • One 2400mm × 2400mm sliding glass door
  • Two 1200mm × 2400mm sliding windows

All three have Colorbond® Night Sky® frames, which sit nicely alongside the Monument® cladding. Bradnams are a quality supplier - we use them on all our builds because they offer plenty of flexibility in size and style, which never compromising on quality.

Larnec PA Door

For everyday access, we’ve installed a 920mm wide Larnec PA door, finished in Monument® to blend in with the cladding.

It’s useful to duck inside for a tool, check on a machine or grab something from storage. There’s no need to raise one of the large roller doors for a quick visit into the shed.

Larnec doors are a regular feature in our builds. They’re solid and secure, and like the rest of the components on this Mt Luke shed they will go the distance.

BlueScope Steel Frame and Concrete Slab

bluescope steel shed frame

There’s a substantial amount of Australian steel in this Mt Luke shed. The structure weighs 9,777kg, with a frame manufactured from BlueScope Steel - Australia’s finest, used in high-quality construction products around the world.

Underneath is a 150mm thick concrete slab, constructed using 32 MPa concrete. Our slab construction also includes edge beams and supporting piers beneath the columns, providing a solid foundation for the steel frame.

The concrete is an important part of the finished shed. The owner has a level, hard-wearing surface for storing equipment, working on machines and keeping everything off the dirt.
