A Serious Farm Shed in Geham
Geham is a farming region sitting just north of Toowoomba - cool, green, genuine agricultural land. The kind of territory where sheds have to pull their weight because they are put to work every day.
This Geham farm shed we recently completed is ready to do exactly that for decades. From the thicker slab to the steep gable roof, robust materials, substantial awning and internal partitions, it’s fully set up for rural life.
Here’s what makes it tick.
Geham Farm Shed Features
This shed was designed to deliver optimum performance on a working farm. The choices our designers made reflect that purpose.
Dimensions
We’re all about big sheds at Stockman, and with these dimensions, this one doesn’t disappoint:
12m wide x 18.28m long x 4m high
Eighteen metres of length gives you the floor space to park multiple large machines side by side, run a dedicated workshop zone and still have room for storage. The 4-metre wall height keeps options open for taller equipment or for vertical storage. With this farm shed, size means functionality.
Gable Roof at 22.5°
The 22.5-degree pitch is steeper than most residential builds, and it works well on a farm shed. Rain runs off quickly, and the ridge height it creates provides generous internal clearance along the full length of the shed. The strong look suits the Geham countryside too.
Zincalume® Roof
The roof is clad in corrugated iron Zincalume®, which is a deliberate choice for a farm context. Bluescope Steel product, Zincalume® is tough, highly reflective and handles heat well, which keeps the interior cooler during the day. On hot summer days in Queensland, that is always appreciated!
Shale Grey™ Colorbond® Wall Cladding
The walls are clad in Colorbond®’s vertical Trimdek in Shale Grey™, a clean, neutral tone that sits naturally in the farming landscape. It’s complemented by Basalt® barges and gutters, a pairing that works together rather than competes for attention. Colorbond® products are made in Australia from Australian steel, so we know they will go the distance in the Geham climate.
Four Steel-Line Roller Doors
Four Steel-Line roller doors in Dover White® make access easy, no matter what you’re trying to move in and out of the shed. There are three doors at the front of the shed, with a tall 3.9-metre one flanked by two slightly shorter 3.6m high ones. A fourth roller door sits at the rear of the left-hand side wall. Access is important in a farm shed, and these four roller doors will ensure machinery of all sizes can come and go easily.
Right-Side Awning
This is a great feature - a 4-metre wide awning runs off the right side of the shed at a 5-degree pitch. An awning this size gives you a proper covered work area right alongside the shed. It’s useful for servicing equipment, keeping machinery out of the rain or just having somewhere to work in the open without getting sun or weather on top of you. On a working property, covered outdoor space gets used constantly.
Bradnams Sliding Windows
Two sliding windows in Dover White® are positioned on the side wall, bringing natural light into the interior and giving you ventilation when the roller doors are shut. Bradnams is the leading supplier of windows in Queensland, giving us flexibility in size and quantity that we can pass on to our customers. We love working with quality suppliers like this.
Larnec PA Door
One Larnec personal access door in Shale Grey™ sits within the awning bay, giving quick foot access without touching the roller doors. On a farm shed that sees regular daily use, a PA door is one of those features that sounds simple but genuinely changes how you interact with the building. Larnec make the best PA doors in the country and we spec them on every Stockman build.
Heavy-Duty Concrete Slab
The concrete slab on this build isn't standard. We poured at 150mm thickness with SL92 mesh reinforcement, both of which are heavier specifications than a typical residential shed slab. For a busy farm shed with tractors, trucks and other machinery using it every day, the extra strength is the way to go. This shed will handle the load without cracking or shifting.
BlueScope Steel Frame
The structural core of this shed is a BlueScope steel frame, the same foundation we use on every Stockman build. There’s a reason we do that - this is the toughest steel around, and most of the local and international building industry agrees with us. This is a frame that will keep on going year after year - holding it’s shape and withstanding whatever gets thrown its way. That’s exactly what you want from your shed investment.
