It’s one of the more popular colour requests here at Stockman Sheds, and we’ve used Colorbond® Monument across a wide range of sheds throughout South East Queensland. Whether it's a garage, workshop, farm shed, American barn, or large commercial building, Monument® looks the part.
Below you can explore some of our real Monument sheds and see how this popular colour looks across different shed designs. We’ll even show you some colour combinations that could help bring your own shed design together.
Monument is a deep charcoal colour that gives a Colorbond shed a strong and modern appearance.
Its versatility means we see it used across everything from double skillions to triple garages. It helps create a striking architectural look that works well with contemporary designs. It also works nicely as an accent colour, jazzing up lighter roofing, trims or doors by creating contrast.
Though it's a strong colour, Monument tends to blend in with the Australian countryside rather than fight it. It’s also a great fit for suburban settings, nicely complementing both modern and traditional existing homes.
Monument can work as the dominant colour across a shed or as part of a contrasting Colorbond colour scheme. These are some of the combinations we've used on recent Stockman projects.
01
Monument, Basalt® and Night Sky®
Monument®
Basalt®
Night Sky®
This dark three-colour combination creates a strong, understated appearance. The Monument walls and Basalt roof work naturally together, while Night Sky provides an even darker accent for the roller doors.
02
Monument, Dune® and Surfmist®
Monument®
Dune®
Surfmist®
Pairing Monument with the lighter tones of Dune and Surfmist creates considerable contrast that catches the eye. Monument provides a dark anchor in the roller doors, gutters and barges, offsetting the Dune roof and the Surfmist cladding.
03
Monument, Windspray® and Woodland Grey®
Monument®
Windspray®
Woodland Grey®
This shed is an example of using Monument trim to make mid-tone colours pop. The wall cladding is in Woodland Grey and the roof in Windspray, with Monument barges and gutters providing clean definition around the roofline.
04
Monument and Wallaby®
Monument®
Wallaby®
Monument and Wallaby create a sophisticated and earthy combination on the darker end of the Colorbond palette. The contrast is more subtle than pairing Monument with a light colour, which gives the shed a balanced appearance.
Shed Designs
Monument across different shed designs
One of the strengths of Monument is that it isn't limited to one particular style of shed. We've used Colorbond Monument across a variety of Stockman shed designs.
Monument Farm Sheds
A dark Monument finish can give a large farm shed a clean, strong appearance while still allowing contrasting roofing, doors and trims to be incorporated into the design.
Monument is particularly well suited to contemporary garage sheds, where the shed colour can be coordinated with an existing home or other buildings on the property.
Monument can also give the traditional American barn profile a much more contemporary character, particularly when combined with contrasting doors, trims and roof colours.
The clean, single-slope roofline of a skillion shed pairs nicely with the bold look of Monument. It can help emphasise the simple architectural lines that make skillion sheds so popular.
Monument’s deep charcoal appearance sits at the darker end of the Colorbond colour palette.
Remember that choosing a colour for a whole shed is different to looking at a small colour sample. There are factors that affect what the colour tone of the shed will look like - for example building size, natural light, the surrounding landscape and neighbouring structures.
In strong Queensland sunlight, the colour and details of the cladding can become more apparent. In shade or overcast conditions, Monument can take on a deeper and more dramatic appearance.
The effect also changes depending on how much of the shed uses Monument. A shed with Monument walls, doors and trims creates a very different look from one that uses Monument walls alongside a lighter roof and contrasting doors.
On this page we’ve tried to provide you with a range of images showing Monument sheds in different situations. If you have any questions about your shed colour choice, our team is happy to help guide you.
Your roof colour can have a major influence on the overall appearance of a Monument shed. Some designs continue the dark appearance across the roof, while others use a contrasting Colorbond colour to separate the walls from the roofline.
The right combination will depend on the shed design, its location, the surrounding buildings and the overall look you're aiming for.
Before we start your build, our designers will sit down with you to consider the complete colour scheme. You have to look at your shed for decades to come, it’s important we get the colour right.
Yes. Monument is a very popular choice for customers looking for a dark, contemporary shed colour. We’ve used it across garage sheds, workshops, farm sheds, American barns and commercial buildings.
What colours go with Monument on a shed?
This depends on the look you’re trying to achieve. It works well with darker colours like Basalt and Night Sky. We’ve also used Monument alongside colours like Dune and Surfmist; Windspray, Wallaby and Woodland Grey; and Dover White.
Does Colorbond Monument look black or grey?
Monument is a deep charcoal tone. How dark it looks can change with the lighting conditions, surrounding colours and the amount of Monument used across the building. It is on the darker end of the Colorbond palette.
Can I use Monument with a different roof colour?
Yes. Monument walls can be combined with a contrasting Colorbond roof colour as part of the overall shed colour scheme. Stockman can help you consider the walls, roof, gutters, trims and doors together during the design process.
Can I build my entire shed in Monument?
Depending on your shed design and specifications, Monument can be used across multiple elements of the building to create a predominantly dark, cohesive appearance. Alternatively, contrasting colours can be introduced through the roof, doors or trims.
