We’ve been getting an uptick in interest in Scandinavian Barns lately (in fact, barn style sheds in general are a hot topic), to the extent that we’ve taken on a project to build a Scandi Barn in Toowoomba.

We’re pretty excited about this and wanted to share the build with you as it develops. First, let’s take a closer look at Scandi barns and why Aussies are so taken with them.

What is a Scandi Barn?

A Scandi Barn is also called a modern farmhouse, incorporating a modern vibe with elements of traditional Nordic home design. It’s a simple, angular exterior look with a high-pitched gable roof. Some people choose to go the no eaves route, others like eaves with their Scandi barn.

We feel it’s equally at home on a Toowoomba farm or in a Brisbane suburb - it’s minimal in design, so it’s adaptable! It’s no wonder the Scandi barn look is creeping its way into the architecture of high-end homes around Australia.

In the Scandinavian countries there’s a focus on a timeless aesthetic, and the barn style creates the blueprint for that. Choosing the colour scheme and materials for the exterior are essential in nailing that aesthetic for yourself. What’s Inside a Scandi Barn?

We love the idea of an open-plan space bathed in natural light, offering a fluid relationship with the outdoors. That’s got the Scandinavian feels in our book! But of course, the possibilities are endless.

Our Toowoomba Scandi Barn
