School Shed at Highlands Christian College Completed

school shed at HCC

We’ve wrapped up the build on the new Toowoomba school shed at Highlands Christian College, and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. If you recall, we shared some ‘in progress’ imagery of this project which you can review here

Now, this custom-designed school shed is fully operational. With a massive footprint and soaring ceilings, it’s an ideal spot for the creative and practical pursuits it’s intended for. There’s secure space for all the gear to be stored, and plenty room for the students to learn their new crafts.

HCC and the Stockman team are stoked with the result. Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why.

What We Love About This Toowoomba School Shed

A school shed needs to be a good fit for school activities, term after term, year after year. The features below, which were all designed in conjunction with HCC, have helped make this shed the best fit possible.

Natural Light

shed with natural light

This is a big shed, and it takes a lot to light up its interior. Having masses of natural light flood in certainly helps create a well-lit and comfortable space to work in. We installed multiple windows close to the roofline to do just that. Our supplier, Bradnams windows gives us great flexibility with the size, style and quantity of windows we can add to our sheds, which we can then pass on to our clients.

Large Footprint

workshop shed

At 12 metres wide, over 18 metres long and 4.4 metres high, this shed brings serious space. The school is already making full use of that, filling it with carpentry gear and other machinery that will be used by thousands of students over the years to come. Space equals functionality in a shed like this. It’s good to see it being used so effectively.

Four Roller Doors

school shed roller doors

There are four roller doors in total across three walls of the school shed. When in use by the students, these can all be opened to create an indoor-outdoor learning zone. They’re also very practical when it comes to moving machinery, equipment and supplies in and out of the shed. Manufactured by Steel-Line, our roller doors are built to stand the test of time.

Two Personal Access Doors

PA door school shed

Getting in and out of the shed is a breeze thanks to two strategically placed Personal Access, or PA, doors. They help with safety, flow and accessibility, providing an efficient alternative to opening a large roller door. Crafted by Larnec, our PA doors are the best available in Australia.

Large Verandah

That big six metre verandah isn’t just for show! It adds shade, protection and extra usable space outside the shed. It’s a genuine value add to the steel structure, completing its look and providing masses of covered storage space.

Solid Construction

Stockman concrete slabs are renowned for their toughness. This one is no different. It’s built with 32MPa concrete, which you usually find in bridges and roads, because we wanted it to handle the heavy use its going to get! When you combine that slab with the robust BlueScope Steel frame, you’ve got a shed that will last for generations, even in the harsh Queensland climate.

COLORBOND® Cladding

COLORBOND® cladding is the tried and tested steel cladding solution proven to last longer in Australia. It comes in a range of 21 colours, so you’ll find one to match your existing structures or the natural tones of your property. For this school shed, they decided on COLORBOND® Monument® for the walls and a lighter Surfmist® tone for the roof. It looks mint.
